NOTICE OF LAST DAY OF REGISTRATION
FOR THE ELECTION TO BE HELD ON
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2018

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that an election will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018.  The last day to register to vote or change your address for the election will be Monday, October 9, 2018.  Persons registering after the deadline will not be eligible to vote at the election.

Persons planning to register may do so in person at the Sample Township Clerk, Sample County Clerk’s office, or the Secretary of State drivers license bureau during regular business hours. Registration may also be made at the specified agency for clients receiving services through the Human Services Department, the Department of Community Health, Michigan Works and some offices of the Commission for the Blind and at the military recruitment offices for persons enlisting in the armed forces. Registration by mail may be used by obtaining and completing a Mail Voter Registration Application at www.mi.gov/vote and forwarding to the election official as directed on the application by the close of registration deadline. Lastly, those already registered may update their voter registration at www.expressSOS.com.

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE candidates of the following partisan offices are to be voted for in St. Joseph County US Senator, US Representative in Congress, Governor, State Senator, State Representative, Secretary of State, Attorney General, State Board of Education, University of Michigan Board of Regents, Michigan State University Board of Trustees, Wayne State University Board of Governors, Justice of the Supreme Court, County Commissioners, Township Offices, and such other partisan offices that may by law be required to be elected.  There will be non-partisan offices that may by law be required to be elected including City Commission positions.

THE FURTHER PURPOSE of the election is to vote on the following proposals as presented and listed below:

STATE PROPOSAL(S)

INITIATIVE TO AUTHORIZE AND LEGALIZE POSESSION, USE AND CLUTIVATION OF MARIJUAN PRODUCTS BY INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE AT LEAST 21 YEARS OF AGE AND OLDER, AND COMMERCIAL SALES OF MARIJUANA THROUGH STATE-LICENSED RETAILERS

 CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT TO ESTABLISH A COMMISSION OF CITIZENS WITH EXCLUSIVE AUTHORITY TO ADOPT DISTRICT BOUNDARIES FOR THE MICHIGAN SENATE, MICHIGAN HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

AUTHORIZE AUTOMATIC ELECTION DAY VOTER REGISTRATION, NO-REASON ABSENTEE VOTING, AND STRAIGHT TICKET VOTING; AND ADD CURRENT LEGAL REQUIREMENTS FOR MILITARY AND OVERSEAS VOTING AND POST-ELECTION AUDITS TO THE MICHIGAN CONSTITUTION

COUNTY PROPOSAL(S)

COMMISSION ON AGING MILLAGE RENEWAL AUTHORIZING THE COUNTY TO LEVY .75 OF A MILL ($0.75 PER $1,000 OF TAXABLE VALUATION) FOR A PERIOD OF SIX (6) YEARS FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF OPERATION MILLAGE FOR THE CONTINUATION OF SENIOR SERVICES THROUGH THE ST. JOSEPH COUNTY COMMISSION ON AGING.

COMMUNITY COLLEGE PROPOSAL(S)

GLEN OAKS COMMUNITY COLLEGE ADDITIONAL MILLAGE AUTHORIZING THE GLEN OAKS COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT TO INCREASE THE LEVY 0.50 OF A MILL ($0.50 PER $1,000 OF TAXABLE VALUATION) FOR A PERIOD OF SEVEN (7) YEARS FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF IMPROVEMENTS FOR THE ST. JOSEPH COUNTY CAMPUS

VILLAGE OF CENTREVILLE PROPOSAL(S)

FIRE PROTECTION MAINTENANCE AND OPERATION SERVICE MILLAGE AUTHORIZING THE VILLAGE OF CENTREVILLE TO LEVY 2 MILLS ($2.00 PER $1,000 OF TAXABLE VALUATION) IN PERPETUITY FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF MAINTENANCE AND OPERATION OF FIRE PROTECTION EQUIPMENT AND SERVICES.

PERSONS ENTITLED to be registered voters must possess the following qualifications on or before the day of the election: (1) a citizen of the United States; (2) not less than 18 years of age; (3) a resident of the State of Michigan and a resident for not less than 30 days prior to the election (MCL 168.492).  In addition, qualified electors must be registered to vote not less than 30 days prior to the election (MCL 168.497).

Please contact your City/Township Clerk for information regarding absentee ballots. The last day for absentee ballots to be mailed is Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.
