The City of Three Rivers (population 7,811) is seeking a qualified full-time Fire Chief for the Fire Department.  Seeking to recruit highly qualified administrator offering exceptional fire prevention and emergency medical management and leadership experience within municipal government.   At will position, recommended for appointment by the City Manager, and appointment by the City Commission.  Reports directly to City Manager.

This position requires ten years of progressive experience in a combined fire and ambulance service; proven skill in recruiting qualified on-call and full-time personnel, MFFTC II certifiable within six months of hire, incident command certified; working knowledge of computer systems (Word and Excel); comprehensive knowledge of modern fire department/ambulance service administration, methods, and ability to apply this knowledge to varied fire and emergency situations; comprehensive knowledge of the use and operation of a wide variety of fire and ambulance apparatus, equipment, and supplies; thorough knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations relating to fire control, prevention, and ambulance; ability to maintain discipline and the respect of department staff, to lead and command staff effectively, and to instruct them in proper work methods and techniques and in the use of fire and ambulance apparatus, equipment, and supplies; ability to plan, initiate and carry out a wide variety of programs for the administration, employee training, fire prevention, effective emergency services, janitorial work at City Hall, and the inspections area; ability to plan, assign and coordinate activities performed by a large group of employees in a variety of work situations; ability to be self-directed in observing and prioritizing; good physical condition; knowledge of municipal budgeting and purchasing; must have good written and oral communications skills and have a valid Michigan Driver’s License.

It is preferred that the individual in this position possess a Bachelors’ Degree in Fire Science or related field, EMT-B license or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the essential knowledge and skills as determined by the City Manager, and that the individual must reside within the City of Three Rivers’ response area within six months from date of hire.

Salary: $55,000 – $65,000 DOQ plus excellent benefits.
