Rust in Water

0

tap-waterThe City is experiencing an increase in rusty water complaints throughout the City.  We believe much of the problem is from the chlorination of the system as a result of positive bacteriological tests in the fall months.  We are investigating the cause of the positive samples.  We will continue to monitor the water supply and chlorinate as recommended.

Chlorine is an oxidizer, and it is reacting with the iron in the water and the deposits in the water mains.  We are doing our best to combat the problem with hydrant flushing as we receive complaints.  If we are required to continue chlorination indefinitely, we will need to also plan to treat or filter our water to eliminate the rust.

We appreciate your patience with the inconvenience.  Please call the Department of Public Services at 273-1845 with rusty water complaints.
